Frequently Asked Questions

We understand that electrical issues can be both stressful and disruptive. Our team is dedicated to providing a seamless experience through clear communication, transparent pricing, and professional results. We work efficiently to ensure your property is back up and running as quickly as possible.

What areas do you service?

We are proudly based in Gladstone and provide comprehensive electrical services to the entire Central Queensland region, including Boyne Island, Tannum Sands, Calliope, and surrounding areas.

Are your electricians licensed and insured?

Yes, absolutely. Oakcrest Electrical is fully licensed (QLD Contractor Licence 87061) and insured. All our team members are highly trained professionals, and we are proud members of NECA (National Electrical and Communications Association).

Can you help with both small home repairs and large commercial projects?

Definitely. No job is too small or too large. We have dedicated teams for domestic residential work, commercial maintenance, and large-scale design and construction projects.

Do you provide smoke alarm services?

Yes, we specialise in compliant smoke alarm upgrades to ensure your property meets current Queensland safety legislation.

How do I know if my switchboard needs upgrading?

Look at your switchboard itself. If it looks outdated, it probably is. Fuses instead of circuit breakers, one safety switch on the whole board instead of one on each circuit, old wiring color or condition - these are signs your board is running on older standards. Modern switchboards handle today's power demands better: more circuits, individual safety switches for each one, better protection. If your board is original to the house and the house is 15+ years old, it's worth getting checked. If you've added air con, appliances, or EV charging since then, the old board may be overloaded. The first thing I would check is whether you're having any tripped switches, flickering lights, or warm spots on the board itself. Those are active warnings. If not, an assessment will show whether your board can handle what you're asking of it now, and what upgrading would involve.

What electrical issues should I get checked before they become a problem?

Flickering lights, cracked power points, and dead light switches or power points are the three you should check first. Flickering usually means a loose connection somewhere in the circuit, and loose connections get hot. Cracked power points expose live parts and are a genuine safety issue. Dead switches or outlets that stop working mean something has failed in that circuit, and you won't know what until someone looks. None of these are emergencies that need you to panic, but none of them are things to ignore either. The first thing I would check is whether the issue is in one room or spread across multiple circuits. If it's one room, the problem is probably local to that circuit. If it's scattered, there might be an issue with your switchboard or main power. Either way, an assessment will show what's actually happening and what needs attention.

How do I book an assessment or get a quote?

Describe what you need done or what is going wrong. Send an enquiry through the website or call. From there, we will outline the next step, whether that is an on-site assessment, a quote, or scheduling the work.

What are your payment options?

We accept bank transfer, credit card, and cash.

What makes us different?

We've got proof here: 133 five-star reviews, Best in Business 2023 and 2024, 6 years doing electrical work. That's credibility built on real work. The difference is we are not a revolving-door contractor; people come back, and they leave reviews because the work holds up. An assessment with you means you see the problem, explain what needs to happen, and quote what it actually costs. No surprises, no upselling.

What should I prepare before you arrive?

Have access to the area where the work needs to happen. If it's a switchboard upgrade, clear the space around your board. If it's an air-con install, know where you want the indoor and outdoor units. If it's a commercial fit-out, have the plans or a sketch ready if you have one. The more detail you can give upfront, the faster the assessment goes.
